North West Men’s League plan for 2013

27th July 2012, 15:12

Planning for the 2013 Domino’s Pizza, St Helens North West Men’s League season has begun following a positive mid-season club meeting held on Monday night in St Helens.

Around 50 teams attended and have already informed the league of their intention to compete in the 2013 season which will provisionally kick off on March 9.

North West Men’s League Chairman John McMullen said: “I’d like to thank all the clubs that attended and contributed to what was a positive meeting.

“The purpose of the mid-season meeting was to gauge feedback from clubs about how they are enjoying the season so far and discuss any issues which they are facing.

“One of the issues discussed was player availability, it was felt that it’s important not to over react to some dates that clubs cant complete fixtures, fines don’t help the volunteers or people working hard to make it happen.

“We heard some great success stories from clubs such as Latchford Albion who have seen a big increase in players and currently have over 50 players training as well as Accrington who have attracted a number of players from nearby rugby union clubs.

“These success stories are echoed in the number of registrations that we have collected which show an increase in player numbers.

“We’re pleased that so many clubs have already committed to the competition for 2013 and this allows us to start the planning process early as we continue to develop the competition building on the successes of 2012.

“The provisional dates for the 2013 season will now be emailed to clubs and each club will also be spoken to about competition standards and see their views that will be taken into account for the 2013 season.

“We’re pleased that generally clubs are happy with the administration and we will look into the other proposals which made such as introducing a Grand Final and play-off system and put these to the clubs to decide on.”
